Week 13

Well my first week of student teaching went okay. I only threw-up once! I've been really tired this week, so that has been hard. I keep hoping I will get my energy back and start feeling better soon. This is what is going on with the baby this week:

"Your baby is 2 1/2 to 3 inches long, the size of a medium goldfish. She weighs about one ounce. Your baby is shorter than a finger, but her face is already showing individual features and characteristics! Her ears are now developed enough that she may be able to hear when you sing, hum, or talk. And her vocal cords will form this week - soon she'll be able to sing back."

Katie wins!

Well the first girl name poll is now closed. It looks like Katie won with about 38 percent of the vote. 18 votes were cast. I can honestly say I am a bit surprised by the results - I was hoping for Leena, but that's okay. James did not like that name much anyway. The only names he seems to like are Obediah and Kelly Junior for a boy or a girl. Ugh. He also mentioned the name Ginny after a character in the Harry Potter series....sure Katie Bell may have been a suggestion of mine, but I wouldn't have suggested Ginny (I mean that is the name of my Ford Anglia). If I can't use the name Sadie because it is a dog's name, I don't think we should be able to use a car's name either. Gee Whiz. Anyway...enough ranting...there is a new name poll. VOTE!

Week Twelve

This past week was rough. I had a sinus infection that gave me a terrible headache, on top of my nausea. All the literature says that I should be feeling better this week. I hope that is the case because I start student teaching on Monday. I have noticed heartburn more frequently now, so perhaps the nausea will be subsiding for this new annoyance. This is what is going on with baby bean:

"Your baby-to-be is now 60 to 65 millimeters long or about two and a half inches long, and weighs about 14 grams. He or she has the ability to swallow and absorb and discharge fluids. Hands, now complete, are growing fingernails. Even tooth buds are appearing. Your baby's face now has a distinctly human appearance."

First Baby Name Poll

Okay friends and family...I have created the first baby name poll. I know it is very exciting. The poll should appear in the sidebar on the right. If it does not show up just hit the reload button in your web browser.

Vote by picking your favorite girl name from the bunch and then click the vote button. If you are really torn between a couple of names, feel free to vote more than once, but be nice and don't vote for the same name multiple times....or else I will have to turn on the feature that blocks multiple voting! This is the first in a series of name polls. There will be more girl name polls, so if you don't like any of these names feel free to make a suggestion by leaving a comment on this posting. Happy voting!

Great Advancements in Baby Products

Although my mom has already purchased a lot of products to help us take care of our little peanut, I've been looking for items to add to a baby registry. While hunting around on Amazon I came across the Pee Pee Teepee for the Sprinkling WeeWee. Lovely. They come in a variety of patterns, airplanes, cars and trucks, firemen and more.

It is nice to know that not only can I look forward to being spit-up on and dealing with explosive poop, I can also be peed on several times a day. It is a damn good thing that babies are cute, because they sure are gross. Anyone care to remind me why I wanted to be a mom?

Week Ten

Still feeling nauseous....I lost my breakfast Thursday morning after I fed the dog. What is it with the smell of dog food anyway? James has been feeding Ginger, but he had to go to Michigan on Thursday. I tried not to breath while dishing out her food in his absence, but I found myself running to the bathroom anyway. Ughh. I hope I start feeling better soon.

Here is what is going on with our little peanut (or parasite as James likes to call it):

"By the end of this week, your baby will have verifiable fingers and toes. The tadpole appearance diminishes as the tail completely disappears. Eyelids fuse and will stay shut until weeks 25 to 27. Both the external ear and upper lip are complete, and the beginnings of external genitalia appear. The average size of your baby-to-be is 27 to 35 millimeters, crown to rump, or 1.06 to 1.38 inches. Your little one weighs in at a hefty four grams! At the end of the eighth week of gestation your little one is no longer an embryo; from now on he or she is refered to as a fetus."
